My review of book one spanned the other four books that I bought within a day of starting into them. However I was re-reading them and one point jumped out at me that I was amazed I missed over in the previous readings (and yes that is plural, I really love this series).

And oh, by the way, I'm not trying to racist with the following.

But for once the CO of the -staring- ship is not European descendant. I can recall perhaps two, maybe three books in several decades where the CO of a ship that a series is the star of is not Caucasian -and- where the author doesn't hit the reader over the head that he or she isn't.

In this series, in this book, its mentioned in passing, that Captain Wakoh is Menominee, and looking back the author sprinkled in references, he doesn't just spring out and that's even more amazing.

I also like how the author did not go the way of Next Gen Star Trek and make everyone monocultural. If I had to compare it to any trek series, the original where everyone was an officer first, but didn't have to leave their cultures behind. A melting pot without blended too much so there wasn't any differences at all and one could just interchange the names.

Here there is a multicultural cast of a Menominee CO, Korean XO, Scottish Chief Engineer, Italian Navigator, and more (not sure what Smith the CAG is and it doesn't matter), where the author keeps up a nice flavor without spoiling it by making it a race issue. They're just crew and the ensemble cast where we can bond to and have adventures with.

Book two continues with building on what book one had laid out. Some fights with the corporations who have grown into a law unto themselves, meeting a new alien race, befriending them by rescuing them from a threat mentioned in book one as well as meeting Glen's mentor, who becomes a re-occurring cast member in books to come. All with that kick-tail kind of feel good victories that are varied. I love how in a way of its not a question of if they win, but how and often its very entertaining and innovative.

These stories rock my world.

I have to agree with the other post. The story was fantastic and a great

surprise. I love the concept & the weapons. Incredible battle - WOW Looking

forward to book 3.
Even better than the first! Love to imagine seeing new worlds while still keeping in touch with human emotions. It's all in the details. Great job! Keep them coming.

Bk 2--The challenge escalates when a bigger, more powerful alien warship shows up. The crew must find new tactics. The female lead's relatives unwittingly suggest a winning answer to her.
[As an aside, the title of this review is a play on the title of my review for Aevum Book 1.]

What happens when 160 cannons and a super AI is simply not enough for a human warship? The author tosses in a bigger, and more destructive weapon in Aevum's arsenal. Book 2 finds the crew of Aevum humming along on galaxy's highway, responding to emergencies, dealing with space pirates, and generating goodwill for the Terran Alliance. But finally, the humans encounter an alien species with superior technology. Has Aevum met its match?

Book 2 is a buildup to a big showdown with this new species, and Aevum's crew has to engage in new, creative thinking to find a way to win the battle, or face oblivion. The space fight is intense, and simply jaw dropping. The tactics involved are as imaginative and creative as any you'll find in A Galaxy Unknown (A Galaxy Unknown, Book 1). Bravo.
